My niece calls the sculptural wood backdrop for our stove, our wood ladder. The goal while we were building this new family vacation home, was to add some texture, and visual interest to the room.
The wall was made starting with Michelle walking around the job site at the end of each day and picking up the ends of the 2 x 6's that were used for framing the house. Those scrap pieces of wood were hand sanded and stained piece by piece. Then we glued and nailed each piece to 4' x 3' plywood sheets.
All in all it was a time consuming process, but was a fulfilling example of using scrap pieces and putting them into an excellent reuse idea.
One of our favorite things in our house is the Rais wood burning stove. It heats up the room wonderfully and sets a fantastic atmosphere for any evening.
